Sikadur® Combiflex® SG System

The Sikadur® Combiflex® SG System is a high-performance joint sealing system for construction, expansion and connection joints as well as for cracks. It allows irregular and high movement in more than one direction when fixed to the joint, whilst maintaining a high-quality seal over the joint. The Sikadur® Combiflex® SG System consists of a modified flexible Polyolefin (FPO) waterproofing tape with advanced adhesion and various type of suitable Sikadur® adhesives.

The Sikadur® Combiflex® SG System contains Sikadur® 31 CF and Sika® Combiflex SG-20 P tape. It has a shelf life of up to 3 years from the date of production if stored properly in undamaged, unopened, and original packages in cool and dry spaces away from direct sunlight.

The Sikadur® Combiflex® SG System consists of the flexible  Sika® Combiflex® SG-20 P sealing tape and a Sikadur® 31 CF epoxy adhesive. It is easy to use and install and highly flexible, suitable for use on both dry and damp concrete surfaces. It is weather and water resistant, with excellent resistance to many chemicals.

The Sikadur® Combiflex® SG System is specially made for expansion, construction and connection joints, as well as for cracks. It is used in tunnels, culverts, hydroelectric power plants, sewage treatment plants, basements, water retaining structures, reservoirs, swimming pools, and around iron, steel, and concrete pipes. In addition, it is used on joints with extreme movement, building sections, cracks, water bars, etc.

Prior to application, all substrate surface must be clean, free of oil, grease, rust, laitance or loose particles, ad age of concrete must be between 3 to 6 weeks depending on environmental conditions. The surfaces must be mechanically prepared such as blastcleaning followed by thorough vacuum/dust removal.

Furthermore, Mix parts A+B together for at least 3 minutes with a mixing spindle attached to a slow speed electric drill (max. 300 rpm) until the material becomes smooth in consistency and a uniform grey colour. Avoid aeration while mixing. Then, pour the whole mix into a clean container and stir again for approx. 1 more minute at low speed to keep air entrapment at a minimum. Mix only that quantity which can be used within its pot life.

When applying tape, measure and select the correct tape size and use the appropriate amount of thoroughly mixed Sikadur® adhesive on both sides of the joint or crack onto the prepared substrate. If the concrete substrate is damp, force the adhesive well into the substrate. Layer thickness of adhesive should be 1 -2 mm and the width on each side at least 40 mm.

For installation on expansion joints or cracks more than 1 mmុំ the centre of the tape must not be “bonded” to the joint filler or substrate. In this situation, apply masking tape on top of the joint / crack and on both outer sides of the prepared joint before applying the adhesive. Apply the thoroughly mixed Sikadur® adhesive on both sides of the joint / crack onto the prepared substrate, using a suitable brush or trowel. If the concrete substrate is damp, force the adhesive firmly into the substrate.  The layer thickness of adhesive should be 1 – 2 mm and the width on each side of the joint / crack at least 50mm on 20 cm wide tape, 40mm on 10cm wide tape.

Before placing the Combiflex tape, remove the masking tape on top of the central expansion joint / crack area.  Apply the Sikadur®-Combiflex® SG 20P tape with the red tape facing upwards within the open time of the adhesive. Press the tape firmly and without trapping air into the adhesive by using a suitable roller. The adhesive should be squeezed out on both sides of the tape by ~ 5 mm.  Apply the Sikadur®-Combiflex® SG Tape with the red middle strip facing upwards. In situations with high joint movement, place the tape into the joint as a loop. Let the base layer of the  Sikadur®-Combiflex® adhesive achieve initial set before the top layer is applied. Apply the adhesive at a thickness of ~ 1 mm over the full width of the Sikadur Combiflex SG tape and extended a minimum of 10mm beyond edges of the Sikadur Combiflex SG tape. This is followed by the immediate removal of the red middle strip and the masking tape on both sides to ensure a neat and precise detail. The adhesive top layer may be smoothed with a brush using a diluted detergent. Allow adhesive to start curing first.

For connecting 2 tapes together, both Tape ends must be connected using hot air thermal welding method. The welding area must be prepared by roughing the surface by scotch brite or sand paper.  Roughen the tapes only in the welding area otherwise the bonding effect can be affected. Overlaps have to be 40 – 50 mm.

For safety precautions, it is advised to use proper protective equipment when handling and using the product. It should not be disposed into the drainage system or nearby water sources and soil, properly dispose of this product according to local laws and regulations.
