Sikabit® W-15 is a double-sided modified bitumen waterproofing membrane for wet-application. It consists of a cross-laminated HDPE carrier film laminated with a modified bitumen based adhesive on both surfaces. Due to its double-sided structure, it can be installed as single or double layered. It provides safe, easy and fast installation of waterproofing membrane with little to no equipment used. It features excellent tear and puncture resistance with crack-bridging ability. Furthermore, it has excellent initial and long term adhesion to the substrate surface. It is packaged as rolls of 1 meter by 20 meters on cardboard, coil wrapped in woven plastic bags, and 25 rolls per pallet. In addition, it has a shelf life of up to 12 months from the date of production in original, unopened packaging. It is advised to store Sikabit® W-15 roll in a vertical position under cool and dry conditions protected from direct sunlight, rain, snow and ice at all time.
Sikabit® W-15 is designed for use in waterproofing reinforced concrete basement and other structures such as foundations, basement slabs and walls, podium slabs, etc.
Prior to the installation of Sikabit® W-15, a layer of very smooth and solid cement concrete is required as a substrate for waterproofing below foundations and base slabs application. It is advised not to install Sikabit® W-15 where standing water is present. Measure the substrate surface before unrolling the membrane and aligning it. The long edges of the membrane are overlapped by a minimum of 80 millimetres and firmly pressed together using a roller. The short edges of the membrane are overlapped in the same way. The overlaps need to be staggered. After removal of the release liner, a modified cement concrete screed is applied to all horizontal areas.
Prior to the installation of SikaBit® W-15 for waterproofing walls and podium slabs, the concrete needs to be saturated by water using a water hose or mechanical means. Any protrusions need to be removed and the concrete surface cleaned. A bonding slurry of approximately 2 to 3 kilograms per meter² of SikaBit®-1 is recommended to apply on the substrate. Then, SikaBit® W-15 membrane is unrolled and pressed into the fresh slurry after removal of the release liner. The long edges of the membrane are overlapped by a minimum of 80 millimetres and firmly pressed together using a roller. The short edges of the membrane are overlapped in the same way. The overlaps need to be staggered.
For safety precautions, it is advised to use proper protective equipment when handling and using the product. It should not be disposed into the drainage system or nearby water sources and soil, properly dispose of this product according to local laws and regulations.
