Sika® Monotop 412TH is a one-component, fiber-reinforced, low shrinkage structural repair mortar. It provides superior workability with minimal shrinkage behavior, and it does not require a bonding primer even when manually applied. It provides a compressive strength of up to 50 MPa and a tensile strength in flexure of up to 8 MPa after 28 days of curing; suitable for restoration work, repair of spalling and damaged concrete, structural strengthening, preserving or restoring passivity, in buildings, bridges, infrastructure, and superstructure. Sika® Monotop 412TH is packaged in a 20 kilograms bag with a shelf life up to 12 months from the date of production if stored properly in undamaged, original, sealed packaging. Furthermore, it is advised to store Sika® Monotop 412TH in dry and cool conditions, protected from direct sunlight.
It is advised to mix Sika® Monotop 412TH using a low-speed hand drill mixer with the speed at less than 500 revolutions per minute, with a mixing ratio of 2.9 liters to 3.1 liters per bag. Furthermore, pour water in the correct proportion into a suitable mixing container. Then, add the powder to the water and stir slowly and thoroughly for at least 3 minutes to the required consistency. The consumption rate may vary depending on the substrate roughness and thickness of layer applied, per standard, the required amount is around 18 kilograms per m² with a thickness of 10 millimeters.
Before application, make sure that the concrete surface is free from dust, loose material, surface contamination, and materials that can reduce bond, prevent suction, or wetting by repair materials. Furthermore, rust, scale, mortar, concrete, dust and other loose and deleterious material that can reduce bond or contribute to corrosion shall be removed.
As a bonding primer, apply the product when bonding primer is necessary by mixing wetter than normally required and apply well on the substrate with a stiff brush. The subsequent application of the repair mortar shall be done wet on wet. On the other hand, it is advised to pre-wet the surface when a bonding primer is not required. The surface must not be allowed to dry before application of the concrete repair mortar.
As a reinforcement coating, Sika® MonoTop® 412 TH can be applied either manually using traditional techniques or mechanically, using wet spray equipment. When a bonding primer is required, ensure it is still tacky when the repair material is pressed on (wet on wet technique). When applied manually, press the repair mortar well on the substrate with a trowel. Finishing for both hand and machine application can be done with the relevant roughcast as soon as the mortar has started to stiffen.
For safety reasons, use personal protective equipment when handling or using Sika® Monotop 412TH. When not in use, store the product in its original package and reseal it back carefully. Do not release or empty this product and its content into the nearby water source or sewage system. In the case of accidental inhalation, it is advised to move to fresh air and consult a physician after significant exposure. On the other hand, it is advised to take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately and wash off with soap and plenty of water if come in contact with skin. Furthermore, the product is very harmful toward eyes and mucus membrane that could lead to tissue damage and blindness. It is advised to rinse eyes immediately with plenty of water and seek medical assistance.
