Sikalastic® 590 is a one-component, polyurethane based, acrylic dispersion, with improved water ponding resistance and excellent UV resistance. It provides high elasticity and excellent crack-bridging capabilities. In addition, it provides excellent adhesion on porous and non-porous substrates.
Sikalastic® 590 is packaged in 20 kilograms plastic pail, with a shelf life of 12 months from the date of production if stored properly in original, unopened, and undamaged, sealed packaging. It is advised to store the product in dry conditions at temperatures between +5 °C and +30 °C.
The economical and cost efficient of Sikalastic® 590 made it suitable for use as waterproofing solutions in both new construction and refurbishment projects, and roofs with many details and complex geometry when accessibility is limited.
Prior to application, loose or friable material and weak concrete must be completely removed and surface defects such as blowholes and voids must be fully exposed. Repairs to the substrate, filling of joints, blow holes, voids and surface levelling must be carried out using appropriate products from the Sikafloor®, SikaDur® and SikaGard® range of materials. Cementitious or mineral based substrates must be prepared mechanically using abrasive blast cleaning or scarifying equipment to remove cement laitance and to achieve an open textured surface. It is advised to prime the substrate and always use a reinforced system.
For waterproofing application without Sika® 120Reemat, Sikalastic® 590 is applied in three coats, one coat as primer and two coats are Sikalastic®-590, with a sufficient waiting time prior to the second coat. It is advised to use mechanical means of spreading Sikalastic® 590 over substrates surfaces. Do not apply Sikalastic®-590 on substrates with rising moisture. Always apply during falling ambient and substrate temperature. If applied during rising temperatures “pin holing” may occur from rising air. In addition, ensure that the temperature does not drop below 15 °C and relative humidity does not exceed 80 % until the membrane has fully cured. Do not apply Sikalastic®-590 directly on insulation boards. Instead use a separation layer between the insulation board and Sikalastic®-590. Sika-120 Reemat can be used as total reinforcement or for partial reinforcements over dynamic cracks and joints. Furthermore, Do not overcoat Sikalastic®-590 with tile, concrete or others.
For safety precautions, it is advised to use proper protective equipment when handling and using the product. It should not be disposed into the drainage system or nearby water sources and soil, properly dispose of this product according to local laws and regulations.
